What you need: nothing β€” just do the test at home and count how many times you needed support or lost balance.

Sitting-Rising Test (SRT)

Sit down on the floor cross-legged, then stand back up, using as little support (hands, knees, forearms) as possible. Count how many times you used support and how many times you lost balance.

How to use this calculator

Do the test on a flat, uncarpeted-is-fine surface with room to sit and stand safely. Score starts at 10; each support used and each balance loss subtracts points.

What your result means

Developed by Dr. Claudio Gil AraΓΊjo, a lower SRT score has been shown to correlate strongly with all-cause mortality in middle-aged and older adults in the original research, with each point lost associated with meaningfully higher risk. It combines flexibility, balance, and lower-body/core strength in one simple test.

What people say

"Humbling test β€” didn't expect to need my hand that much. Straight into the Fitness Hub for balance work after."

β€” Walter M.

"Scored a perfect 10 and it was oddly satisfying to have that confirmed with an actual mortality-linked test."

β€” Chidinma E.
