Heart Rate Recovery (HRR) Calculator
How to use this calculator
After a bout of intense exertion (e.g. running, cycling, or 1 minute of hard bodyweight exercise), note your heart rate at the peak, then stop and stay still — note your heart rate again at exactly 1 minute of passive rest.
What your result means
Heart Rate Recovery reflects how quickly your parasympathetic ("rest and recover") nervous system reactivates after exertion. A drop of less than 12 bpm in the first minute is an established, independent predictor of higher mortality risk in the foundational Cleveland Clinic research (Cole et al., 1999), even after adjusting for other risk factors — a bigger drop generally reflects better cardiovascular fitness.
