TyG (Insulin Resistance) Index
How to use this calculator
Enter fasting triglycerides and fasting glucose from a standard blood panel β both values need to be from a fasting draw (typically 8-12 hours without food) for this to be accurate.
What your result means
The TyG index is a simple proxy for insulin resistance that only needs two common values, unlike HOMA-IR which requires a fasting insulin assay. On the natural-log scale used here, most adults land around 8-9, and studies commonly use cut-offs of roughly 8.5-8.9 to flag likely insulin resistance, even when fasting glucose alone looks normal. Cut-offs vary by population, so treat the result as a prompt for a conversation with a doctor, not a diagnosis.

"Simpler than HOMA-IR and I already had both numbers from my last panel."
